AYCLIFFE TRI Club Race Report
Just a couple of results to finish off last month. Mick Casey travelled to Catterick on the 18th to enter the sprint distance triathlon. He completed the course in 1:14:09 in 76th position overall, with a strong run. On the 28th June, the first of three Mid Week Super Sprints organised by Triology Multisport Solutions was held at Ellerton Waterpark, near Scorton. Four of our club members took up this little challenge, on a very overcast, showery, windy Wednesday evening. With only minutes between them, Austin Donoghue finished in a time of 56:01, 22nd in his age group, 50th male overall while Jeremy Ladbury finished in a time of 57.33, 25th in his age group, 53th male overall. Newcomer Chris Brown coped well with the conditions and finished just under the hour in a respectable time of 59:31, 18th in his age group, 59th male overall. Last but not least, James Wilson crossed the finish line in 1:01:40, an excellent 1st in his age group, 59th male overall.
Over the first weekend of July, the club had an excellent turnout for the Ripon Triathlon festival, with this year being chosen to host the National Standard Distance Triathlon Championships and GB Age Group qualifier for the ITU Age Group World Championships. Over a thousand triathletes raced over the weekend and eight of our members competing. On Saturday 1st, in the standard Olympic distance triathlon Dan Halladay finished in 2:18:37, leading the team in 177th overall. Susan Brown was next in a time of 2:23:29, 5th in her age group and so qualifying her for the World Champs, 262nd overall. Using the race as a warm up for his up and coming Ironman Long Distance Triathlon, Mick Casey crossed the line in 2:51:28, 741st overall. Just over the three-hour mark, Alan Kellet finished in a time of 3:00:39 in 842nd overall. Tracey Warrior was our first lady home that day in 3:11:55, 911nd overall, while Anne Kellet finished in 3:36:02, ((3rd overall and pleased as punch with her result. The day after, the sprint distance triathlon was held and Ian Readman finished a fantastic 4th in his age group, 29th overall in a time of 1:19:24 with David Packham completing the course in 1:29:41, 71st overall.
