A PACKED week of running saw Quakers setting several personal bests and a club record, while others went in search of points at the latest league and championship races.
There was a large turnout on Merseyside for this year’s Liverpool Rock ‘N’ Roll race series. In the marathon event, Ty Hankinson covered the 26.2 mile route in 3:35:10 (PB), along with Sue Woodcock (4:11:52), Richard Hughes (4:31:48) and Gemma Eddy (4:42:12, PB). Over the half marathon distance, Billy Harris finished in 1:35:50 followed by Adrian Colbourne (1:41:47), Diane Vaughan (1:44:37), Anna Hardy (1:58:08), Brian Martin (1:59:48), Sandra Martin (1:59:49, PB), Nicola Herraghty (2:20:54), Gillian Harris (2:40:50), Michelle Scruby (2:42:18), Nichola Jordan (2:42:18), Caroline Ridley-Marriott (2:42:22), Jeff Marriott (2:42:23), Lisa Johnstone (2:43:11), Sharon Carr (2:49:23), Lisa Alderson (2:49:23, PB) and Linda Harrington (3:11:07). The previous day had also seen Jeff Marriott run in the 5K race in 23:42.
There were plenty of runners north of the border too at a fairly sunny Edinburgh. In the marathon, Jamie Pratt completed the distance in 4:29:01 followed by Lyn Hatch (4:34:42), Andrew Dixon (4:53:00), Darren Alderson (5:10:45) and Grainne Duffy (5:49:01). In the half marathon, Fred Tennant finished in 1:41:45 along with David Ledgerwood (1:59:56, PB), Barbra Barker (2:06:28), Michelle Dale (2:12:03) and Jo Dickinson (2:12:38).
The latest 10K league race took place at a very warm Melmerby, near Ripon. First home for the club over the undulating countryside route was Dave Jones in 38:13, followed by Rob Dent (39:52), David Todd (41:25), Chris Minto (41:34), Andrew Vernon (44:23), Samuel Joblin (44:30), Louise Trainor (44:35), Brian Mclaren (44:48), Ed Griffiths (44:52), Mark Robinson (46:26), Rob Gillham (46:30), Graham Park (46:50), Michael Oliver (48:30), Steven Major (48:59), Peter Rowley (51:18), Shaune Eland (54:04), Sarah Watson (55:00), Juliette Mclaren (55:18), Lisa Jenkins (1:00:11, PB), Sue New (1:00:17), Darryn Wood (1:02:18) and Alan Prest (1:08:54).
Nearer to home, in the 10K race at Northallerton, Marc Ellis came home in eighth place in 38:48, followed by Phil Rutter (44:14), David Matthew (44:20), Gavin Armstrong (51:15), Danny Gordon (53:17 and first in his age category), Bridget Stewart (53:29), Mark Trowles (54:42), Julie Whinn (55:21), Tracey Plaskitt (57:34), Robert Kirby (57:16), Gill Colling (1:00:04), Helen Whiting (1:02:38), Philippa Rayner (1:02:38, PB) and Sonia Talbot (1:12:34)
Five headed over to Thorpe Thewles for the Whitsun Woodland trail race, a 6.5 mile route along parts of the Castle Eden walkway. Michael Parry finished in sixth place in 40:22, with Paul Dalton (51:45), Clare Stradling (1:03:30), Hannah Robinson (1:09:24) and Fiona Dixon (1:16:46).
Down in Hull, Nigel Eddy took part in the Humber Bridge 10K, completing the race which covered an out and back route along the bridge itself, in 51:34.
Dave Thompson was out on the hills on his own for this year’s LDWA 100 which started at Malton. On a 102 mile route which took in most of the North Yorkshire Moors and featured a total climb of 11,000 feet, he finished in 30 hours 48 minutes.
The start of the week had seen Lindsey Lester head up to Monkton for the latest North East Masters event. In the 800m she set a new club record finishing in 3:08, while also running 15.3s in the 100m and landing 3.76m in the long jump.
Midweek had also seen the second of the Tees Trail Summer 5K races, just down the road at Tees Barrage. Gary Read completed the off-road route in 20:40 along with Dan Rowlands (20:56), Louise Trainor (21:48), Lewis Boshier (26:19), Michelle Boshier (26:23), Sarah Watson (27:13), Danny Gordon (27:43), Barbra Barker (28:52), Wendy Noble (29:16), Claire Hewitt (35:39) and Sally Watson (35:40).
The previous week had seen Simon Rek run in the Fox and Hounds Chase near Castleton, finishing the 9 mile route which took in 1500 feet of climb in 1:46:21.
In the Saturday morning parkruns, Dave Jones finished at South Park in 18:15 followed by Gary Read (19:43), Luke Minall (20:12), Adrian Cottam (20:53), David Mclachlan (21:12), Paul Pomfret (21:26), Lewis Boshier (24:33), Dan Rowlands (24:36), Stuart Masterman (24:43), Nigel Eddy (25:01), Michelle Boshier (25:35), Mark Trowles (25:42), Juliette Mclaren (25:47), David Ptak (26:33), Christopher Parsons (27:22), Julie Bell (27:23), Gavin Armstrong (27:24), Steven Johnston (27:30), Helen Clarke (28:35), Alison Hardwick (30:20), Fiona Dixon (30:57), Gemma Marshall (31:21), Diane Lockhart (31:32), Lucy Bendle (31:58), Tracey Plaskitt (31:59), Emily Beaumont (33:06), Nicola Arkley (34:03) and Sally Watson (34:55).
At Sedgefield, Andrew Vernon and April Corbett finished in 21:27 and 26:08 respectively, Stephen Moore did the run at Albert Park in 24:10, while at Hackworth, Adrian Colbourne finished in 22:08 along with Phil Clarke (23:41) and Darryn Wood (35:56). Further afield, Anthony Corbett ran at South Shields in 25:17, Mike Brown did the run at Chester in 22:27, Dawn Johnston and Phill Johnston completed the run at Skipton in 33:31 and 33:58 respectively, Tom Chapman ran at Keswick in 23:15 and Peter Rowley finished the Fell foot run at Newby Bridge in 24:52. North of the border, Caroline Moses did the Edinburgh Portobello run in 30:06, while David Ledgerwood ran at the Glasgow Springburn run in 24:09.
