A BUSY weekend of action saw Quakers setting new personal bests, breaking club records and, in one case, coming home with a piece of silver.
The biggest turnout of the weekend was down in Thirsk for the latest club championship race. First home for the club over the fairly flat 10 mile route was Paul Dalton in 59:46 followed by Brian Martin (1:06:36, finishing first in his age category and breaking the club record for the distance), David Todd (1:08:41), Louise Trainor (1:09:36, finishing second in her age category and breaking her own club record in the process), Billy Harris (1:11:12, PB), Gary Read (1:11:54), Phil Rutter (1:12:09), Adrian Colbourne (1:12:30), David McLachlan (1:14:54), Brian McLaren (1:15:01), Steven Major (1:15:05), Stephen Moore (1:18:28), Graham Park (1:18:45), David Whittle (1:19:49), Fred Tennant (1:20:13), Mike Brown (1:20:22), Michael Oliver (1:20:29), Ewan Henderson (1:21:47), Simon Rek (1:23:22), Lindsey Lester (1:24:45, PB), Jamie Pratt (1:25:27), Lyn Hatch (1:26:30), Sue Woodcock (1:26:30), Julie Whinn (1:27:37, and taking almost five minutes off the existing club record for her age category), Sandra Cass (1:28:08), Sandra Martin (1:29:33, PB), Janet Bowlby (1:31:29), Juliette McLaren (1:31:43), Pamela Barrass (1:33:24), Gill Colling (1:33:43, PB), Anna Hardy (1:34:05), Barbra Barker (1:34:52), Ian Young (1:35:19), David Ledgerwood (1:36:11), Helen Whiting (1:36:46), Claire Norman (1:37:32), Michelle Scruby (1:44:36), Sarah Bayles (1:46:20), Lisa Jenkins (1:50:41), Alan Prest (1:56:48) and Linda Harrington (2:17:06).
Over in Liverpool, Brian Martin, represented the club at this year’s Masters Cross Country Championships. He completed his race, which covered 8K, in 30:45, to finish second in his age category and in doing so take home the silver medal.
Peter Rowley headed over to Redcar for another one of those dizzying runs around Locke Park. Taking the 10 mile option on the day, he completed the ten one-mile laps of the park in 1:22:53 to finish first in his age category.
The latest Hardmoors race took place on Saturday, this time the 55 mile one, which covered the route from Helmsley to Guisborough. On a course which went through the North York Moors and the Cleveland Hills, Annette Clarke finished in 11:10:32 (and first in her age category), followed by Dave Thompson (12:27:13), Charlie Bogg (13:19:48), Jamie Norman (14:32:53), Roy Macdougall (14:35:02) and Emily Beaumont & Michelle Boshier who came in together in 15:28:10.
Over in the Lake District, Rebecca Howard was the sole Quaker at the Cartmel trail race. On an 18 mile route, which started and finished at the town’s racecourse, she completed the off road route in 2:35:54.
Also running in the national park was Emma Bland, who took part in the Derwentwater Dawdle. Held over a 22 mile route, which took in over 4200 feet of climb and went round the entire perimeter of the lake itself, she finished the undulating race in 6:43:00.
Midweek had seen a 5K race being held in South Park in aid of the Children with Cancer charity. At Sedgefield, Paul Dalton was first across the line there in 17:59 along with Ty Hankinson (22:28) and Jeff Marriott (28:35), while at Hackworth, Rob Dent and Adrian Dent finished there in 19:50 and 43:34 respectively. At Albert Parkrun, Dan Rowlands did the run there in 20:23 along with Stephen Moore (21:59) and Jamie Pratt (24:23). Mike Brown and Caroline Moses completed the run at Wetherby in 21:46 and 28:28 respectively, while Darryn Wood ran at Northallerton in 35:08. At Tees Barrage, Daniel Orton finished in 20:43 along with David Ledgerwood in 25:33, Adrian Colbourne did the run at Gateshead in 21:36 and Anthony Corbett headed to Leeds for the Roundhay run, finishing there in 27:11.
