THE DROP in temperatures certainly made the going hard at Witton Castle Lakes this week. We welcomed 63 visiting anglers who tried their best in the cold conditions and returned a rod average of just over 3 fish.
In a tricky week no one managed the limit but three anglers did take bags of 13 fish, they were N.Horner, R.Hopper and C.Curry. Other double figure bags were returned by A.Edwards and J.Campbell who both had 10 fish each.
A.Edwards caught and returned the best fish of the week with a hard fighting 8lb rainbow.
With the fish going down due to the cold temperatures, buzzers were by far the most successful of the flies this week. Some anglers also had limited success with CDS’s and zonkers.
On Saturday Witton Castle Lakes held their round of this years Troutmasters fish off with Blythe Palmer (pictured) taking the win, weighing in with a 3-fish bag of 6lb 12oz and an early weigh-in bonus of 5lb.
