CENTRAL DURHAM Association
The first week of matches in this new Association, which accepts teams from any premises with a full size snooker table, opened with a maximum win for Newton Aycliffe over the visiting Langley Park with points from Stuart Neill, Ian Halford, Alan Keeney, Michael Hewitt and Steve Colbeck.
Bishop Auckland Golf Club opened with a victory over the visiting Meadowfield Club, who had Steven Jackson as their only winner. The hosts had wins from Billy Goggins with a 31 break, Ben Heys, Ian Simpson and Andrew Aisbitt with a 70 break. Malcolm Hughes made a 32 break but was beaten by Goggins.
Paul Biddle put in a 69 break for Spennymoor and was joined as a winner by Carl Welsh. However he visiting Ferryhill A clinched victory with wins from Ian Roddam, Jason Watson and Martin Whithead.
First Division results: Hunwick A 3 Shildon Elm Road 2; Wingate 3 Sherburn Village 2; Bearpark A 4 Fishburn 1; Spennymoor 2 Ferryhill A 3; Bishop Auckland Golf Club 4 Meadowfield 1. Durham City had a bye.
In the Second Division the pre-season favourites, newcomers, Shotton Officials were beaten in the decider by the visiting newcomers, Tow Law Alex’s Bar. Kieran Laing and David Murray put he visitors ahead but Ian Dinsdale and Paul Hickman equalised. In the decider the visiting Tommy Williams took blue, pink and black to beat Jimmy Evans senior by the odd point.
Wheatley Hill Club returned to snooker action but lost the first frame when Tony Wilson put the visiting Bearpark A ahead. The Hill then took over with wins from Arthur Peachey, Billy Walker, David Lowes and Dean Jones.
Stanhope opened with a maximum against the visiting Hunwick B when they had wins from Adam Robinson, Roy Devlin, Jon Jo O’Neill, Alan Barker and Adam Dobson.

Ronnie Bateman Memorial Final
The best of five frames final of the singles tournament in memory of Ronnie, who did so much to help to create the Association from the two separate leagues from two C.I.U. divisions, was held at the Spennymoor Club, of which he was a member. Jimmy Evans senior of Wingate played Adrian Jones of Ferryhill A.
The first frame was very tight but Jones managed to edge ahead on the final colours to win 58-49. In the second frame Jones quickly opened out a gap and held it throughout to win 60-32 with the aid of a 46 break. Jones completed this victory when he commanded the third frame and landed the trophy with a 51-17 win.
Curry Cup
The draw for Round One is Shaun Richardson (Stanley Cent. B) v Adam Robinson (Stanhope); Lee Gardiner (Shildon Elm Road) v Kevin Davison (Sacriston); Robert Jones (Trimdon Colliery) v Andrew Stephenson (Sherburn Village). Results to be in by 23 October. There are 29 byes.
