Dunston continued their recent improvement with a 3-1 home win over Durham City in the ENL last night.

They took the lead with a header by Danny Craggs , who then scored a second from close range, both goals set up by Terry Galbraith.

City pulled a goal back through Conor Winter from a Ricky Fenwick assist, but on 75 minutes veteran defender Chris Swailes headed Dunston’s third from another corner by Galbraith.

Dunston manager Billy Irwin said: "It was a great first half, and we should have been out of sight, But we couldn't get going in the second half."

Durham manager Adam Furness said: "It was a much improved performance from Saturday. I thought Dunston were the better side in the first half and deserved their lead at the interval, but our goal changed their momentum. We were a lot better in the second half and were unlucky not to equalise. A lack of fitness on a heavy pitch took its toll and we conceded late off a setpiece. There were impressive debuts from Jack Walker and Ricky Fenwick, and a lot of positives to take out of the game."

Ashington drew 2-2 with Penrith, Marc Walton equalising deep into stoppage time for a point.

In the FA Carlsberg Vase, Consett beat Northallerton 3-2 with a last minute goal by Matthew Slocombe.

Consett took the lead through Steven Aiston from close range, but Ian Smurthwaite equalised for Northallerton on 66 minutes with a 25 yarder. Just two minutes later Michael Mackay converted a penalty for handball to put Consett into the lead, then Craig Winter appeared to force extra time when he scored two minutes from the end with a header. But Slocombe put Consett into the next round when he scored from 12 yards deep into stoppage time.

Consett manager Kenny Lindoe said: "I'm happy with the result and the performance and looking forward to the next round. Disappointed to concede from two set plays but I'm sure they cause problems for most teams with the height they have in the team."

Northallerton boss Mark Fanning said: "Credit to our lads  they have given it a right go but Consett took more of their chances. Best of luck to them in the next round."
