Mars bar gives Hebburn energy to win 5-2

Town took the lead with an early header by Micky Dunwell, but after Hebburn centre forward Tony Stephenson was briefly distracted to eat a Mars bar, he scored a hat trick before half time, with James Luccock getting the other.

Jamie Owen pulled a goal back from the spot for Town, but Carl Paterson made sure with the fifth late in the game.

Hebburn are now up to third, and manager Paul Bennett said: "It was a superb team performance. It took 15 minutes to settle but after that we dictated the whole game. A thoroughly professional performance and another three points ticked off. "

Billingham Town manager Carl Jarrett said: "We played very good for 20 minutes, then we went 1-0 up. Somebody turned a switch off after that. We have to improve quickly or it will be a long season."

West Auckland went top of table with a 2-1 away win at Sunderland RCA. They took the lead after 29 minutes when John Campbell scored from a right wing cross by Neil Pattinson, and they went 2-0 up when Campbell and Moffat combined and sent Stuart Banks racing through to score. RCA pulled one back through Aristote Guerin-Lokonga, but West held on for victory.

West Auckland manager Peter Dixon said: "We were very good in the first half, but we let them back into the game when we made a mistake in the second half."

RCA manager Neil Hixon said: "It was an even first half, and in the second half we battered them. A fair result would have been 6-3 to us. It was the same old story, we can't finish our chances."

Shildon dropped points in a 1-1 draw at Consett . Shildon took the lead on 28 minutes when Sam Garvie fired into the bottom corner, but Consett levelled on 81 minutes with a cross-cum-shot from near the touchline by Steve Aiston that sailed over Shildon keeper Keith Finch.

Shildon manager Gary Forrest said: "We never really got going, pitch made it very difficult to get ball down and play, Sam Garvie scored a great goal that got us in front but to concede such a poor goal in last 10 minutes was disappointing, a cross looped into the top corner. We never deserved to win the game but Consett never had a decent effort at goal all night and we should have gone  2-0 up when Sam went through with keeper to beat."

Consett manager Ken Lindoe said: "I thought we played well and deserved at least a draw. What a difference from saturday, our workrate and desire were plentiful."

Team Northumbria took an early lead at South Shields with a goal by John Redhead, but Jonny Wightman levelled for Shields. However, former Darlington midfielder Dan Riley scored twice to give TN the points.

TN manager Paul Johnson said: "We made a few changes to the team with this weekend's FA Vase tie in mind, and the result proves we have good strength in depth. When we took the lead I thought we might kick on , but when we conceded  they got a little boost which I was pleased we came through. In the second half I thought we upped the tempo and really got at them, resulting in the goals that killed it off."

Shields finished the game with outfield player Lee Bell in goal, because keeper Ben Starford was injured and they had already used all three subs.

Marske threw away a two goal lead at Ashington and had to settle for a 2-2 draw. David Onions put them 2-0 up before half time, but Marc Walton replied with two for the home side after the break.

Guisborough stretched their winning run to four games with a 1-0 away win at Penrith, Luke Bythway scoring on the hour.

Dunston are out of the FA Cup after losing their replay by 4-2 at Evostik League Kendal Town.

However, they were very close to causing a shock, leading 2-1 going into the dying minutes of normal time before the home side converted a penalty. Andy Bulford scored twice for Dunston.

In the second division, lowly Stokesley pulled off a major shock at Chester-le-Street with a 1-0 win, the goal scored in the first half by Ross Hodgson. It was Stokesley’s first league win for 18 months.

Coach Chris Lax said: "The win was long overdue. It was thoroughly deserved, and could have been more if we'd taken our chances. All of the team deserve a massive pat on the back for the workrate and commitment. The hard work starts here with a good platform to build on."

Chester-le-Street manager Colin Wake said: "It was a poor start again, we conceded after just four minutes, then huffed and puffed, created a few chances which we wasted. Our biggest threat was from setpieces. We didn't really hurt them in open play."

Darlington RA moved into second with a 3-0 away win at Jarrow Roofing. Freddie Huscroft scored twice from close range in the first half, then Jordan Hanratty scored the third near the end.

Thornaby defeated Horden 2-0 at Teesdale Park, Gary Mitchell scoring both, one of them a penalty.

Assistant manager Ray Morton said: "It was a good solid win and we played well. Horden rarely had a sniff of goal. I'm pleased after a few poor results,"

Seaham Red Star had an excellent 3-0 away win at promotion chasing Whitehaven, Channon North scoring two of them, with Danny Grey scoring the other.
