Guisborough MP Tom Blenkinsop has given Guisborough Town a major boost.
Blenkinsop, who is also club president, this morning contacted the club's electricity supplier, Eon, and they have agreed to drop their demand for immediate payment of an outstanding electric bill, and accept instalments over twelve months instead. The utilities company was threatening to gain access to the premises and shutting off the electric supply later this week.
The debt relates to the social club, which is a separate entity from the football club. If the electric had been disconnected to the floodlights, then the football club might have been unable to fulfil fixtures.
A packed public meeting on Monday night listened to the problems at the club, and there was plenty of support, both financially and otherwise.
However, the social club still has other creditors, and they are now looking at ways of addressing those problems, especially regarding the VAT.
A club spokesman said: "The football team budget is safe. There are plans to hold raffles and sportsmen's evenings for them as usual. There is no suggestion that the future of the football team is in any danger."
