Consett reached the second round of the FA Carlsberg Vase with a 3-2 replay win over Guisborough at Belle Vue last night.

Michael Mackay gave them a 30th minute lead when he scored from a Marc Walton free kick, and Walton got the second with an effort into the top corner.

Guisborough sub Willie Boland pulled a goal back, but Consett virtually made sure when Walton scored from a Dale Burrell pass. Chris I’Anson scored from a free kick in the last minute after Consett keeper Barry Poskett was penalised for picking up a back pass.

Consett will now play Ramsbottom in the next round . Guisborough manager Chris Hardy said: "It was a disappointing game from the point of view that we conceded soft goals and didn't get started well. We were two down then and we had a go, but to try and outscore Consett by four goals isn't going to happen."

In the first division of the STL Northern League, Bedlington easily beat Newcastle Benfield 5-0. Anthony Shandran gave them a great start after 14 minutes, then Steve Richardson added another on 38.

Shandran then completed his hat trick in the second half, with Richardson chipping in with a fifth in the last minute. Benfield also had defender Kevin Leighton dismissed.

Norton beat Shildon 2-1 at Station Road. Nathan Mulligan gave them the lead after 20 minutes when cut in from the left and scored with a low shot, then Theo Furness, who recently returned to the club from Iceland, had a powerful shot saved, but former Shildon player Garry Barnes tucked in the rebound. Shildon assistant manager Stuart Niven said: "A frustrating performance from players who are feeling sorry for themselves."

In the second division, North Shields crushed Ryton and Crawcrook 5-1. They scored four times in the first half with two apiece from Paul Gordon and Keith Douglas, then Gordon completed his hat trick in the second half, Adam Rowntree pulled a goal back for Ryton. North Shields manager Anthony Woodhouse said: "It was all over in the first half. We started very well and scored four but conceded a sloppy goal. But we kicked on in the second half."

West Allotment moved into third with a 3-0 home win over Washington. Manager Paul Stoneman said: "I'm delighted with the result, but I know we can play a lot better, but nice to score three and keep a clean sheet." Allotment are now up to third in the table.
