Whitley Bay, the winners of the FA Carlsberg Vase for the last three seasons, have been drawn at home to Tadcaster Albion when they begin their defence this season.
Whitley, who have created Vase history by lifting the trophy on four occasions, will face the Northern Counties East League side at Hillheads on November 19th. Manager ian Chandler said: " I expected a lot more all Northern League ties to be honest, and at least we've avoided teams from our own league. This game will be difficult enough though, and we'll be going to watch them in advance."
Billingham Town have been drawn at home to Glossop North End from the North West Counties League, and manager Carl Jarrett said: “We know that this will be a tough game, because they reached the final three seasons ago when Whitley Bay won for the first time. But we’ll be up for it, especially as we’re getting into some sort of form.”
Dunston, who could go top of the Northern League if they win on Tuesday night, are at home to Blackwell MW from the East Midlands Counties League, and manager Billy Irwin said: “We couldn’t have asked for more, we’re at home.”
Ashington play Norton in one of two all Northern League ties, and Norton secretary Steve Lawson said: "I personally think that the draw is tough one for both teams and a shame that a good Northern League team will go out on the day either way. "
The other all Northern League game is between Billingham Synthonia and Crook at Central Avenue. Synners assistant manager Lee Tucker said: "“ It’s a very tough draw but at least we are at home which is a bonus. They have some very good players and I expect them to be challenging for promotion this year so we will not take them lightly just because they are in the second division.”
Crook joint manager Paul Adamson said: "We're disapponted to get another Northern League team, but we will go there with a chance of winning if we are at our best."
WEst Auckland are at home to Bacup Borough, who are midway in the NWCL. Manager Peter Dixon said: "We're content with a home draw and to avoid fellow Northern League teams to give our season some variety. It feels like a national competition when you play teams from outside your area." Spennymoor have been drawn away for the ninth successive time, on this occasion at Barnoldswick in Lancashire. Manager Jason Ainsley said: “It’s what the Vase is about, going to unknown places like this. I wish we could have a home game sometime!” The draw for the second round of the FA Carlsberg Vase, to be played on November 19th, is: Dunston v Blackwell MW, Bridlington v Gillford Park, Billingham Town v Glossop, Newcastle Benfield v Barton Town Old Boys, West Auckland v Bacup Borough, Ashington v Norton, Billingham Synthonia v Crook Town, Parkgate v Bedlington, Whitley Bay v Tadcaster Albion, Guisborough or Consett v Ramsbottom, Barnoldswick v Spennymoor.
