South Shields manager Gary Steadman has decided to quit following his side's FA Vase exit at Billingham Town on Saturday.
Steadman announced his resignation immediately after the game, and the club confirmed that he has left wit h a brief statement.
"Under Gary's stewardship we have had five great years, our most successful in the last 20 years and his contribution to the club cannot be underestimated. We part on great terms and we know Studs will continue to attend matches at Filtrona Park as a supporter."
Steadman took Shields to midtable security in the first division, and they also won the league cup two seasons ago.
There has already been plenty of interest in the vacancy, and the club has received several enquiries from out of work managers.
