Dunston UTS could go joint second if they win at Billingham Synthonia on Saturday.
Dunston lost their unbeaten record last week, and manager Billy Irwin adds defender Micky Robson and striker Steve Goddard to their squad. Synners, who are in eighth place will be missing midfielder Michael Cater, but they are hoping that striker Nathan Jameson returns.
Fourth placed Whitley Bay are at Norton, a place below them. Norton will be at full strength except for defender Darren Hollingsworth, who is moving to Australia.
Whitley, who won for the first time in four games in midweek, are without midfielder Paul Robinson and defender Gareth Williams, but defender Craig McFarlane could return after injury.
Spennymoor manager Jason Ainsley could make changes for their home game with second bottom Tow Law, but there is definitely a major doubt over injured midfielder Sam Garvie. Lawyers, whose away form is much better than their home form in the league are without injured pair John Hewitson and Steve Banks, but striker Derek Waters returns. Striker Mattie Scott is suspended.
Third bottom Marske United, who are at home to Bishop Auckland, will be without defender Adam Wheatley because of work commitments, while striker Anthony Ormerod will have a fitness test. Bishops have five players struggling because of injury – Dion Raitt, Darren Richardson, Chris Lawson, David Wells and Arran Wearmouth.
Newton Aycliffe are hoping to bounce back from their miserable midweek defeat by South Shields when they play Penrith at Moore Lane. However, they will be missing four strikers because of injury, Josh Gray, Danny Mellanby, Dale Jardine and Ben Wood, while another, Glen Robson , is suspended.
Bottom club Stokesley, without a win in 16 league matches, are at home to Ashington, who are without three players long term because of injury – Darren Lough, Gareth Bainbridge and Stephen Young.
The second division preview is in the second division section
