Ryton and Crawcrook Albion have quickly changed their manager, with Dave Hagan taking over from Peter Craggs.

Hagan has decided to leave Consett, who finished runners up in the first division last season, for Ryton, who were relegated from the first after a financial crisis prompted virtually all of their players to quit just a fortnight into last season.

Peter Craggs took over at that point and managed to field a team in difficult circumstances for the rest of the season.

Hagan’s switch has raised eyebrows considering that Consett will be amongst the title chasers this season and Ryton will be a complete rebuild in the second division, but he said:”I know that there is a lot of work to do, and that I need to bring in at least six or seven players to strengthen the squad on a low budget.

“I’ll give the lads already at the club a chance, but I’ll be wanting to put my own stamp on the job.

“I know that I’ll have to drop my own standards, and make allowances for the fact that I’m dealing with players in the second division.”

Ryton and Crawcrook secretary Ken Rodger said; “Peter came to the club at a very difficult time and his enthusiasm and positive attitude have been greatly appreciated.

“The club wishes to place on record its thanks for the commitment he has shown to the club and wish him every success in his future endeavours.

“Peter wishes to acknowledge that he has thoroughly enjoyed his spell at Ryton and feels that his efforts over the past ten months have helped to stabilise the club.

“Davy brings a wealth of Northern League experience to the post and is looking forward to a new challenge. Davy is no stranger to the club and understands the constraints under which he will be working. All at the club welcome his appointment and obviously wish him every success as he embarks on a new phase in his managerial career."
