STL Northern League champions have signed former Darlington player Corey Barnes.

Utility player Barnes was released by Quakers at the end of the season, after being unable to force his way into the first team.

He was outstanding as a youth team player, and he made his debut in the first team in February 2009 soon after the club went into administration, in total making 11 appearances, one of them against Leeds United in the JP Trophy.

Spennymoor manager Jason Ainsley said: "I see Corey as a very good and promising young lad who can play across the midfield or full back, he wanted to join us as soon as he left Darlington and has been true to his word, he is hungry to do well. Corey knows he has fierce competition at the club but believes in his ability to force his way in to the team which for me is the right character i want at the football club, he loves the way in which the club is moving and wants to be a part of it."
