Crook are hoping that former Darlington midfielder Richard Hodgson can make a big difference to their Second Division campaign.

Hodgson, who started his football career at Sunderland, made 99 appearances for Quakers between 2000 and 2003 scoring 6 goals, one of them a 35 yarder at Oxford, before he moved on to play for several non league clubs in the south of England.

He moved back to the north east in 2007 and played for Sunderland Nissan, and won an FA Vase winners’ medal with Whitley Bay when they beat Wroxham in 2010. He played for Sunderland RCA and Bedlington last season, but Crook have now persuaded him to drop into the second division.

Crook joint manager Paul Adamson said: “Richard will give us that extra bit of quality in midfield. Basically, he wants to come and enjoy his football.”

Hodgson joins forces with his old Darlington team mate Gary Pearson, who was appointed player-coach near the end of the last season.

Crook have also signed striker Danny Corbett, who was top scorer with Brandon last season, keeper Dan Molyneux, defender Jordan Fraser, plus Paul Grainger and Lee Collins, who have both been released by Darlington.
