Northallerton will be turning back the clock when they stage a home friendly with Liversedge on Saturday July 16th.
The second division club is having a “theme” day against their Northern Counties East League opponents, with the proceeds from the day's activities going to charity.
Northallerton chairman Dave Watson said: “The match is part of a charity Wartime Weekend, and the game will be played under the theme “Escape to Victory”, the film about a football match played in a POW camp.
“The Northern Wartime Association are providing German guards in uniform around the ground for the game, Gestapo officers to sit in the stand as per the film and military vehicles in the car park . The charities Help For Heroes and the Corporal Ben Hyde Memorial Fund will benefit. The game will be followed by a social evening in the clubhouse.”
The Escape to Victory film included Pele, Sylvester Stallone, Bobby Moore, Ossie Ardiles and Michael Caine, although exactly which Northallerton players will be stepping into their shoes hasn’t been decided yet!
Meanwhile, Northallerton Juniors F.C. will be entering a team in the Teesside League next season, which will be an opportunity for local players 16 years old and upwards to progress into Saturday senior football The club are delighted to announce that major local company, Maxwells Electrical of Northallerton, will continue as the main sponsor for the new season. Watson said: “ Bill Burton, managing director of Maxwells, and his family attended our last game of the season and made the offer which the club were delighted to accept .We are fortunate to have such a prestigious company as Maxwells involved with the club .”
