Speculation is mounting about Gillford Park’s fate at the Northern League management committee meeting on Thursday – but it doesn’t look as if they’re going to be kicked out of the league.

The Cumbrians have had a long drawn out issue with their landlords, and have been unable to play any home games on their own ground so far.

At a special management committee meeting a fortnight ago, Gillford were told that they had to resolve their dispute with their landlords, or arrange a groundshare at a ground that is up to Northern League standard.

League officials have been helping the club as much as possible, and several meetings have taken place involving various bodies in the last few days.

At the special meeting , the league was told by two official bodies that there is nothing unsafe with the Gillford Park ground, and so armed with that information, the league has been canvassing for a solution.

In the meantime, Gillford have switched matches to the Cumbria Sports Academy. Unfortunately, they were unable to erect any dugouts because their landlords wouldn’t allow them to enter the ground and remove them.

They have played Newton Aycliffe and Morpeth at the Academy, and are due to play Thornaby on Saturday.

But the indications are that they will remain in the league, and play their games at either Gretna or the Cumbria CA, although they will need to produce a formal groundsharing document.
