Shildon bounced back to form with an excellent 4-1 win at Newcastle Benfield to go third in the STL Division One table.
Andy Johnson burst clean through to score the first two goals for Shildon, but Benfield pulled a goal back with a John Campbell penalty.
However, Shildon kept their cool and went 3-1 up when Lee Chapman scored in a goalmouth scramble, and Justin Keegan headed the fourth from a corner, all before half time. Shildon keeper Dan Staples saved another penalty from Campbell in the second half, while the game finished in half light following a floodlight failure.
South Shields came from behind to win 3-2 at West Allotment.
Chris Reid and Lee Hamilton put Allotment 2-0 up, but Shields hit back in the last twenty minutes through Sean Sweeney, Lee Paul Scroggins and Robert Briggs.
In the second division, Martin Butterworth scored the only goal of the game to give Northallerton, in their first game in two months, a 1-0 win at Thornaby.
Hebburn moved into the next round of the EA Trophy with a 4-1 home win over Washington, who took an early lead with a goal through Nicky Martin.
Hebburn equalised after 22 minutes when Dean Nicholson crossed for Stuhart Nicholson to head in, and on the half hour Dean Nicholson set up Steve Hutchinson to put them into the lead.
Dean Nicholson volleyed the third just on half time, and Stephen Forster grabbed the fourth midway through the second half.
Birtley assistant manager Richie Latimer has quit, and joined West Allotment as number two to Tom Wade.
