Bishop Auckland comfortably won their first game at their new Heritage Park by 4-0 against Esh Winning last night.
Bishops took the lead when Chris Lawson headed down a right wing corner for Wayne Gredziak to fire into the roof of the net. Bishops’ Steven Turnbull missed a penalty after Danny Lawson of Esh was dismissed for handball, but Chris Bell drove a low free kick from way out on the touchline into the far corner for the second just before half time.
Darren Richardson made it 3-0 with a left foot shot on 55 minutes, then Adam Emson made with 4-0 from just inside the box.
Tow Law had a good 2-1 away win at Penrith. Lee Dial gave them the lead following a good move down the left, and after half time Andrew Thompson added the second with a curling shot into the top corner. Ottway pulled one back for Penrith. Sunderland RCA pushed Jarrow Roofing deeper into trouble with a 4-1 win at Meadow Park. The RCA took the lead when Joe Walton ran from the halfway line and scored from the edge of the box, and just after half time he rattled in another from 20 yards. The outstanding Walton then crossed for Richie Logan to head in, and after Watling pulled a goal back, Logan beat two men and scored the fourth. The RCa have made Michael Coghlan and David Duke available for transfer.
In the second division, leaders Newton Aycliffe won 2-0 at Gillford Park, who were playing their first home game of the season. The scores were goalless until the 74th minute when Sean Tarling and Elliott Gardner set up Ben Wood to slot the ball into the empty net, and Warren Byrne made it 2-0 from the spot after he was brought down. Aycliffe are now eleven points clear at the top.
North Shields moved into third with a 2-0 home win over Horden. Andy Hay put them in front with a header on 29 minutes, then Keith Douglas finished off a good move for the second.
Chester-le-Street knocked Whitehaven out of the Ernest Armstrong with a extra time penalty by Mark Davison. Just like the league game last Saturday, Chester led 2-0 at one point with goals by Ben Johnson and Mark Davison, but Whitehaven hit back to lead 3-2. However, Gary Shields levelled with five minutes left to force extra time.
In the North Riding Senior Cup, Guisborough beat Middlesbrough with a goal by Paul Roddam, while Marske United squeezed past Grangetown on penalties.
Durham City had a good 3-1 win over Sheffield in the Evostik League Cup, with goals by Elliott Cutts (17), Jack Pounder (20) and Amar Purewal (61) before Andrew Gascoigne replied.
