Spennymoor manager Jason Ainsley has warned that nothing is decided following Moors’ 2-1 home win over title rivals Shildon at the Brewery Field last night.

Moors beat their neighbours thanks to two goals by Adam Johnston, with Gary Brown replying for Shildon late in the game, to put them in clear second, three points ahead of the Railwaymen.

“Just because we beat Shildon, doesn’t mean that anything is decided, because Shildon will still be in amongst it at the end of the season. But to take six points off Shildon this season is massive from our point of view. It was a great team effort by our players, and they worked their socks off for the full 90 minutes.” Moors are at Ryton on Saturday.

Shildon manager Gary Forrest said: “It was a tight game with not very many chances, and at half time, I told the players that one piece of extra quality would win the game. Unfortunately from our point of view, it was Adam Johnston who supplied it.” Shildon are at home to Bedlington on Saturday.

Norton won their local derby by 2-0 at Billingham Town, with second half goals by Craig Gott and Jamie Owens.

Manager Conrad Hillerby said: “We played some good stuff, but we didn’t take enough of our chances. We made some wrong decisions in their penalty box, but I can’t grumble too much.” Norton are at Bishop Auckland on Saturday.

Bishops’ home game against Billingham Synthonia was postponed because of a frozen pitch an hour before kick off, as was the second division clash between Chester-le-Street and Northallerton.
