Norton are through to the semi finals of the Durham Challenge Cup after beating Crook Town 3-1 at Station Road last night, but they left it late.
Second Division Crook looked as if they were going to hold on for extra time, until a penalty 10 minutes from the end turned the game Norton’s way.
Crook took the lead in the first minute when Daniel Reeves volleyed in a left wing cross, but Norton levelled on the half hour when Jamie Owens scored from a Steve Huggins free kick.
With ten minutes left, Norton took the lead with a Craig Gott penalty after Danny Earl was fouled, and on 83 minutes Owens scored from a Theo Furness pass.
In the STL Second Division, a late goal from Horden’s Tom Gavin earned his side a point in a 2-2 draw at Washington, who were twice in the lead through Craig Coates and Nicky Martin. Gilberto Chapim scored Horden’s first equaliser.
