Spennymoor manager Jason Ainsley thanked the club's groundstaff and officials for their Durham Challenge Cup win over Billingham Synthonia yesterday.

The efforts of the Moors' backroom team paid dividends to stage the game, with Moors gunning for four honours and the potential of a fixture backlog.

"Everybody worked really hard to get the game on," he said. "The fans and the backroom staff have done a lot of work. The game was in doubt yesterday morning because one of the goalmouths was frozen, so someone parked their car on the pitch over the icy part and ran the engine for 20 minutes.

"It worked a treat. Mind you, the car was caught offside a couple of times in the second half.!"

Moors knocked the hodlers out 4-1 to book a semi final place.

Esh Winning lost 2-0 at home to Billingham Town in the STL Northern League to keep them in deep trouble near the bottom.

"Both teams were lethargic, and it was a non-event," said Esh manager Peter Mulcaster. "We missed a few chances, mainly down to a lack of sharpness."

Esh have now failed to score in 13 league games this season."

Esh have placed Richard Archer on the transfer list.
