Spennymoor cruised to the top of the STL Northern League with a 5-0 win at Jarrow Roofing. Moors took the lead on 20 minutes when Stephen Harrison crossed for Michael Rae to score, then Gavin Cogdon headed the second from a Craig Ruddy cross. Cogdon fired the third under the diving keeper after half time, then Paul Stephenson volleyed the fourth from a corner. Steve Richardson set up Michael Laws to wrap up the points late on.
South Shields are now in the top half of the table after a 3-1 home win over West Auckland. They took the lead after just 25 seconds through Lee-Paul Scroggins, but within two minutes Martin Young levelled following a mistake in the Shields defence. Scroggins put Shields back into the lead with a free kick just on half time, and Stephen Ramsey made sure in a scramble after 75 minutes.
Tow Law ended a run of seven games without a win with a 3-0 home win over Bishop Auckland. John Hewitson put them in front from a Lewis Harrison through ball after 40 minutes, and then Greg Halliday scored twice in the second half, his first a deep cross-cum-shot that swirled into the net, and a low shot into the bottom corner.
Esh Winning had a bad result at the bottom of the table, losing 3-0 at home to West Allotment. Two poor back passes let in Lee Hamilton to score twice in the first half, and Paul Gardiner made sure in the second half.
Whitley Bay had a good home win over Dunston by 2-1. Adam Johnston fired them into the lead after 24 minutes from a Lee Kerr pass, and he scored the second on 42 minutes with another effort into the top corner. Dunston set up a nervous finish with a goal on 85 minutes through Lee McAndrew’s free kick.
