Bishop Auckland knocked their derby rivals out of the Durham Challenge Cup with a stunning second half at Shildon’s Dean Street last night.

After a goalless first half, Bishops took the lead after 50 minutes when Darren Richardson ran through and slotted home, and then on 65 minutes he volleyed in the second. Craig Toman made it 3-0 from six yards after being set up by Stephen Turnbull, then Richardson completed his hat trick from the penalty spot after Arran Wearmouth was fouled. Turnbull added another penalty with two minutes left.

Second Division Newton Aycliffe stunned first division leaders Consett at Moore Lane to record one of their best ever Cup victories.

Gavin Barton twice went close for Consett before he gave them the lead just before half time with an angled right foot shot, but Aycliffe improved after the break, and after Fred Woodhouse hit the base of the post, Elliott Gardner levelled from the spot after Craig Mickle was fouled by Barry Poskett.

After an even half hour of extra time, Aycliffe won the penalty shootout 4-2 Crook came from behind to beat Washington 2-1 at the Millfield. Washington took an early lead through Nicky Quinn on 5 minutes, but Crook hit back before half time through Liam Beeston and Darren Kokes.

Holders Billingham Synthonia beat Wearside League club Jarrow 2-0 at Central Avenue. Colin Iley broke the deadlock just after half time, with Nathan Jameson firing into the top corner on 73 minutes.
