West Auckland are through to the last sixteen of the FA Buildbase Vase thanks to the only goal of the game against Walsall Wood on Saturday.
The goal was scored by midfielder Lewis Dodds – a veteran of several Vase campaigns in his Spennymoor days – to settle a game that was spoilt by the strong wind.
Manager Gary Forrest said; “We’re pleased to be in the next round.
“It was a solid performance in difficult conditions. I don't think they had a shot on target which is testament to how the lads went about the game. I thought we were always in control and possibly should have got another.”
After a first half short of entertainment, Dodds fired the winner from the edge of the box, and they could have added a second but Amar Purewal fired straight at the keeper from close range.
Two other Northern League clubs are through. Hebburn won 1-0 at Vauxhall Motors, and after the kick off was delayed by an hour, Consett beat Lutterworth 3-1.
Stockton Town, surprisingly, lost 1-0 at home to Atherstone.
The draw is at lunchtime on Monday.
