North Shields went second on goal difference in the ENL First Division by beating Dunston UTS 2-0.
Shields took the lead on 36 minutes when Gareth Bainbridge was tripped in the area by Luke Gilhespy and Bainbridge tucked away the penalty for his 12th league goal of the season.
Bainbridge got the second on 51 minutes hwne he was left unmarked to head in from a corner. Dunston’s David Coulson headed against the post from a left wing corner In the North Riding Senior Cup, holders Guisborough edged past Stokesley 4-2, after they were level 1-1 at half time.
Thornaby came from behind to win 2-1 at Northallerton. Damon Reaks put Northallerton into the lead, but Jamie Clarke levelled near the end of the 90, and then scored the winner deep into nine minutes of stoppage time.
Morpeth beat West Allotment 3-2 in the Northumberland Senior Cup to put them into the semi finals.
