Spennymoor Town are looking for swift revenge against Newcastle Benfield in the EBAC Northern League at the Brewery Field on Saturday.
Moors were surprisingly knocked out of the Vase last Saturday by Steve Bowey’s team, but after beating West Auckland in the Durham Challenge Cup in midweek, they are raring to go again in their quest to win the league title. They are currently in fifth place, 16 points behind leaders Celtic Nation with eight games in hand.
Manager Jason Ainsley said; “We have not played a league game since our draw away at Shildon so it's an important few weeks for us trying to get as many points on the board to stay in touch with the leaders. Tuesday’s win at West Auckland has given us a big boost.”
Midfielder Wayne Phillips and striker Andrew Johnson are both out with groin strains, but defender Steve Capper and midfielder Andrew Stephenson are both fit again.
Benfield will be close to the same team that won last week, with defender Richie Slaughter back in the squad, while defender Jordan Mellish, who was on the bench last week, facing a fitness test.
West Auckland, who are in third place, face Durham at the Seagrave Stadium.
West will give fitness tests to defenders Neil Pattison and Lewis Galpin, who both picked up knocks in the midweek DCC defeat by Spennymoor.
Durham are missing keeper James Winter, defender Craig Ellison and striker Richard Offiong because of injury, while defender Dan Madden and midfielder Josh Gray are both doubtful.
Bishop Auckland are at third bottom Team Northumbria, whom they beat last month in the league cup. Midfielder Dan Hawkins and striker Jonny Butler will both have fitness tests.
Crook, unbeaten in their last three games, go to second bottom Hebburn, and they hope that defender Darryl Evans will return after injury, but midfielder Craig Price is unavailable. Manager Gary Pearson also hopes to sign defender Corey Nicholson from Willington, but he will be unable to play regardless because of suspension. Hebburn, who have only picked up four points at home this season, welcome back defender Dan Smith after injury, but midfielder Marc Costello misses because of injury.
Newton Aycliffe are at Consett, hoping to recover from their 5-1 defeat in midweek. Keeper Andrew Spence is unavailable, but top scorer Jamie Owens returns.
Consett are without their top scorer Luke Sullivan and defender Scott Martindale, but keeper Dan Regan, defender David Coulson and midfielder Gilberto Chapim return.
Dunston UTS, who have 19 games still to play, are at Bedlington and looking to bounce back from their surprise league cup defeat in midweek at Whitehaven. Keeper Liam Connell, defender Ben Cattanach and striker Steve Goddard all return.
In the 11am kick off for the groundhoppers, Marske United have a local derby against Guisborough at Mount Pleasant. Marske, who have won only once in their last eleven league games, will be at full strength, while Guisborough, who are sixth, have a big injury doubt over keeper Ben Escritt, while defender Lewis Wood is suspended.
The teams will meet again later this month in the league cup.
Billingham Synthonia are at home to Sunderland RCA, who are just a point and a place above the relegation zone. They will be missing midfielder Theo Furness who is having a trial with a Swedish club, keeper Seb Furness, Tom Bott, Dan Newby, Joel Callender and Andy Burton. However, centre half David Abel has returned to the club after a brief spell at Billingham Town. The RCA welcome back defender Steven Baynes, but midfielder Andy Brown is missing, while defender Ross Wilkinson and midfielder Kyle Morris will have fitness tests.
Ashington have a local derby at home to Morpeth, and they will give Martin Brittain a late fitness test. Morpeth are without striker Scott Swanston because of suspension, and midfielder Shaun Bell is unavailable.
In the second division, league leaders North Shields are at home to Norton. Shields, who lost last week to Seaham Red Star and in midweek at Brandon in the league cup, give fitness tests to Michael McKeown, Adam Forster and Dean Holmes, while defender Joe Elliott and new signing Dan Patterson are added to the squad.
Norton, who are fifth need to win all their remaining games to keep their slim promotion hopes alive, and are without Jack Proctor and Shaun Lambert because of injury, while Rocky Andrews will have a fitness test.
Seaham Red Star, who are fourth, are away to Whickham, and manager Mark Collingwood will choose from a full squad, with the exception of defender Darryl Donnelly. Whickham, who still have eleven home games remaining, will be without Nathan Johnstone and Ross Peareth, both because of injury West Allotment, who are third, are at home to Whitehaven, and manager Paul Stoneman will be missing six players for various reasons, and chooses from a squad of 16. Whitehaven caused an upset when they beat Dunston UTS in the league cup in midweek.
Jarrow Roofing, who have won their last five matches to go second, face bottom club Ryton and Crawcrook, and they welcome back striker Stuart Nicholson and defender Ian Dixon, while Liam Martin is out because of injury.
Birtley, whose promotion chances are slipping away, have a local derby at Washington, and manager Paul Bryson will choose from a full squad.
Washington will give striker Mark Davison and midfielder Aaron Croft fitness tests.
Northallerton go to third bottom Brandon, and manager Peter Mulcaster will be without unavailable midfielder Craig Perry. Brandon, who are just a point above the relegation zone, are without Stephen Oakley and Stephen Moody, while James Paylor, Ben Clarey and Mark Brischuk all return.
Tow Law go across to Stokesley for a 2.30 kick off. Striker Anth Lee and defender Robbie Blemmings are both missing, while striker Dan Wilson will have a fitness test. Stokesley have a big doubt over midfielder Greg Upton, while Ryan Hodgson will deputise in goal for the unavailable Dan Lynas.
In the 6.30 evening kick off, Darlington RA are at home to Thornaby, who are without defender Craig Winter and midfielder Stephen Morrison, but Shaun Davies and Gary Wood both return.
Willington are at South Shields, and they will be missing Liam Whitworth who is suspended, Aidan Goodey and Reece Marshall. However, Lee Newby returns from holiday. Shields are at full strength except for defender Barrie Smith.
Chester-le-Street are at Alnwick and are without five players for various reasons, so manager Colin Wake will call on some of his fringe players.
In the other game, Heaton Stannington are at home to Esh Winning.
In the Evo-Stik League, Whitby make the long journey down to Grantham, and Blyth are at home to AFC Fylde.
