Shildon will now play Consett in the semi final of the Durham Challenge Cup after beating Dunston UTS by 2-1 after extra time in their quarter final at Dean Street last night Dunston lost defender Chris Swailes because of a breathing problem early in the game, and then their keeper Liam Connell pulled off two good saves.

Dunston, who were being watched by Saturday’s Vase opponents Brightlingsea, took the lead after 27 minutes when a cross by Lee McAndrew hit the bar, and Andy Bulford rammed in the rebound.

Shildon improved in the second half, and levelled with an angled left foot shot by Sam Garvie into the bottom corner of the net on 65 minutes.

They went ahead in extra time through Carl Jones from a Craig Ruddy cross, but then had defender Darren Richardson dismissed for two yellows.

In the Brooks Mileson Northern League Cup, Guisborough beat Spennymoor 3-2 with a last gasp goal by Mikey Roberts with only seconds remaining.

Guisborough took the lead when Mikey Roberts scored from a Danny Johnson cross, but Sonny Andrews fired Moors level in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

However, Adam Gell put Guisborough ahead again in the first period of extra time, only for Leon Carling to put through his own goal near the end of extra time.

However, with just seconds left, Roberts fired the winner.

Meanwhile, there was speculation last night that Whitley Bay have parted company with manager Ian Chandler, who has led them to three Vase victories at Wembley and the Northern League title.

In the ENL, Newton Aycliffe drew 3-3 with Penrith at Moore Lane.

Penrith took the lead when Richard Faustino scored from a long clearance, but Aycliffe levelled when Tom Atkinson was fouled by Curtis Wood who was sent off, and Stuart Owen scored from the spot.

Steven Rigg restored Penrith’s lead at the start of the second half, but Aycliffe pounced on a mistake and levelled through Kerry Hedley.

Aycliffe took the lead for the first time through Atkinson, but Grant Davidson equalised for Penrith with a header from a right wing cross.

In the second division, Jarrow Roofing went second in the table with a 4-0 away win at third bottom Brandon.

Stuart Nicholson gave them the lead when he fired home after cutting in from the left, then Paul Gardiner made it 2-0 on 55 minutes after Andy Appleby headed against the bar.

Liam McBryde then made it 3-0 from an Anth Myers cross, and he made it 4-0 from the spot after Brandon defender mark Ferguson handled on the line and was sent off.

North Shields are eleven points clear at the top after they won 3-1 at Northallerton.

Joe Elliott scored twice for Shields after half time, with James Howlett pulling a goal back for Northallerton. But Ben Richardson scored from long range to make sure of the points for Shields.

Willington drew 2-2 at Alnwick, who took an early lead through Keith Douglas. Corey Nicholson hit back twice for Willington, but Tom Vickers scored a late equaliser.

Both teams had players sent off. Alnwick finished with ten men, and Willington nine.
