Spennymoor manager Jason Ainsley wants the fans to turn out in big numbers for their all Northern League Vase clash against Newcastle Benfield today.
The joint Vase favourites are very determined to return to Wembley again, but Ainsley knows that Benfield represent a huge obstacle in the all Northern league tie, with a place in the last eight at stake.
“I think it will be a close and very tight game between two clubs who know each other very well, but I hope that our home advantage and experience in these situations will swing in our favour,” said Ainsley. “I hope our supporters turn out in force as they are a massive help in big games like these.”
Defender Callum Griffiths will probably be missing because of injury Benfield will be without midfielder Andy Dugdale and defender Stuart Elliott, otherwise manager Steve Bowey chooses from a squad of 20.
However, like many other games in the area, there will be a morning inspection.
The three other ties involving West Auckland, Dunston UTS and Morpeth were all postponed yesterday morning and have been re-arranged for next Saturday.
In the ENL, Newton Aycliffe hold one of their toughest home games of the season against league leaders Celtic Nation, and they will still be without injured striker Jamie Owens, while defender Steve Gibson returns.
The Nation, who are three points clear and beat Aycliffe 3-0 earlier in the season, are without injured midfielder Mark Boyd because of injury for the rest of the season, but midfielder Peter Murphy and striker Martyn Coleman both return after suspension.
Shildon, who are second, are at second bottom Hebburn Town, and they will be missing keeper Lewis Graham and defender Darren Craddock because of suspension.
Hebburn hope to sign a new striker before the game, but they are missing striker Channon North who is unavailable.
The game between Consett and Bishop Auckland is almost certain to go ahead at Belle View on the 3G. Consett boss Kenny Lindoe chooses from a full squad, while Bishops welcome back Sean Tarling after suspension.
Billingham Town’s new boss, Darren Trotter, takes charge for the first time at home to Crook Town. Trotter is the club’s fifth manager in the last ten months, and could give several new players their debuts. Crook are without keeper Jack Norton, while midfielder Adam Nicholls and defender Elliott Woods are both doubtful.
Billingham Synthonia face Guisborough in a local derby at Central Avenue.
Guisborough, who suffered their first defeat in twelve games last weekend, are without suspended midfielders James Risborough and Lewis Wood, while keeper Ben Escritt is injured.
Whitley Bay are at home to Durham City, and they include new keeper mark Cook in their line up, but there is an injury doubt over midfielder Jarrett Rivers. Cook started his career at Newcastle, and played a few games in Peru two seasons ago.
City are missing keeper James Winter and striker Richard Offiong because of injury, while midfielder Craig Hindmarsh and defender James Oates are both missing. Jordan Galloway and Craig Ellison will both have late fitness tests.
Sunderland RCA go to Bedlington in a six pointer in the relegation battle, and they will be without defender Danny Wray, but defender Steven Baynes, midfielder Jack Stanger and striker Callum Patton all return.
The game between Ashington and Marske has been postponed.
In the second division, leaders North Shields, who have won their last twelve league matches, are at home to Willington, and they will give fitness tests to striker Dean Holmes and midfielder Adam Forster, otherwise manager Graham Fenton chooses from a full squad. Willington welcome David Lee, Paul Bailes and Lee Newby back into their squad, while they will give Jason White a fitness test.
West Allotment, who are eight points behind in second, are at Esh Winning, and will be without four players because of injury. Esh, who are second bottom and a point behind third bottom Brandon, will be at full strength.
Seaham Red Star, in third, are at Stokesley, but they have three clubs breathing down their necks.
Heaton Stannington go across the river to Whickham, and they will be missing their skipper Joe Wear because of suspension, while first choice keeper Shaun Backhouse returns to the squad, along with Dean Deagle and William James. Craig Robson will make his home debut after signing from Consett.
Jarrow Roofing, who are in fourth place, face an interesting journey over the Pennines to Whitehaven. Strikers Liam McBryde and Dan Reeves both return, but striker Stuart Nicholson is out because of injury.
Norton need to keep winning to keep their promotion hopes alive, and they’re at Alnwick. Midfielder Michael Joseph returns after suspension, but rocky Andrews and Shaun Lambert are both missing and Jack Proctor is doubtful.
Northallerton who haven’t played a home game for two months, are at home to Ryton and Crawcrook, and manager Peter Mulcaster includes former Northallerton player Martin Butterworth, who has rejoined the club from Darlington RA. Defender Steve Banks and midfielder Colin Anderson are both unavailable.
Darlington RA, who are at home to Washington, are without Tom Ptak, Jimmy Muir, Lee Farrington and Paul Johnson, while player-manager Nick Harrison will have a fitness test. Washington include new signing Anthony Lund from Consett and Michael Roberts from Chester-le-Street.
Birtley, who are in seventh place, are at third bottom Brandon, and manager Paul Bryson will have a full squad. Brandon hope to make a new signing, and welcome back five players who missed the midweek defeat at Alnwick, but James Harrison, James paylor and Ben Clarey are all missing.
Thornaby, who are at South Shields, have a full squad with Ian Bishop and Gary Wood returning. Shields should be at full strength.
The game between Tow Law and Chester-le-Street is extremely doubtful because of a waterlogged pitch, but should it go ahead, then Lawyers will be missing Shaun Ryder because of suspension.
In the Evo-Stik League, Blyth go to Stafford, while Whitby are at home to Rushall Olympic.
