FA Carlsberg Vase winners Spennymoor began another day of celebration when they drew 1-1 in the ENL at Shildon this morning.
The players partied well after the Vase win on Saturday, and so maybe it was no surprise that they were sluggish in the first half in the game against the losing semi finalists. Shildon took the lead after 25 minutes when Jamie Owens hit the post, and Sam Garvie beat Spennymoor keeper David Knight from the rebound. Garvie nearly added another before the break, but Knight denied him at point blank range.
Moors improved in the second half. Andrew Stephenson had an effort cleared off the line, then Craig Ruddy levelled when he fired across Shildon keeper Jake Jackson.
The keeper then made several good steps to keep his side in the game, one in particular from a Micky Rae free kick, although he was grateful that the Chris Mason blasted against the crossbar.
Shildon nearly won it in the dying minutes, but Phil Brumwell’s header was tipped over the bar by Knight.
Bishop Auckland beat Bedlington 2-1 at Heritage Park.
Jamie Harwood headed them in front after 5 minutes from a corner, but Phil Bannister levelled after the Bishop defence failed to clear the ball.
But Harwood popped up again to score the winner from 12 yards on 50 minutes.
Marske won 2-1 at Consett. They scored twice in the first half through Adam Wheatley (25) and John Alexander (35), then Josh Myers put through his own goal for Consett’s consolation in second half stoppage time.
Ten man West Allotment beat holders Northallerton to win the Ernest Armstrong Trophy by 3-1 at Central Avenue.
Allotment had the edge in the first half, and were denied the lead when Shaun Reid hit the crossbar, while Northallerton lost their top scorer Adam Emson because of injury.
Allotment took the lead soon after half time from a Reid penalty after he was pushed in the box, but Northallerton levelled with a header on 70 minutes by James Bowman from a Gavin Parkin free kick.
David Dormand restored Allotment’s lead with a header from a Marc Dummett corner, but then they had Stephen Little dismissed for two yellow cards. However, they kept their composure and with two minutes left, Dormand raced through and scored the third.
