Newcastle Benfield are through to the semi finals of the Northern League cup, after they won 1-0 at Billingham Synthonia last night.
The only goal of the game was by Stephen Young on 29 minutes after Haydn Bell hit the post. Benfield will be away to the winners of the delayed tie between Bishop Auckland and Whitley Bay.
Ashington are through to the final of the Northumberland Senior Cup thanks to a 2-0 win at North Shields, Glen Taylor and Andy Johnson their scorers. Ashington will play Whitley Bay in the final.
In the ENL second division, relegation battlers Alnwick came from behind three times to draw 3-3 at Birtley, Tony Brown scoring a hat trick. Michael Hepplewhite, Chris Smith and James Allsopp scored for Birtley.
Whickham defeated Ryton with a goal by recent signing John Martin.
In the Ernest Armstrong Memorial Cup, Brandon came back from 3-0 down to force Jarrow Roofing into extra time, before they lost a thriller 6-4.
Northallerton’s new manager, Peter Mulcaster, saw his team win 3-2 at Chester-le-Street after extra time Adam Emson getting the winner.
