Shildon suffered an embarrassing defeat ahead of the second leg of their FA Carlsberg Vase semi final when they were hammered 8-1 at Bedlington in the ENL last night.

Shildon took the lead after 4 minutes with an Adam Johnson penalty, but Bedlington immediately equalised through Paul Brayson, and then took the lead through Mark Doninger’s strike. Phil Bannister sidefooted the third midway through the half , and Andrew Leeson scrambled in the fourth on 25 minutes. Doninger then scored the goal of the half, a 40 yard lob over the Shildon keeper.

It got no better in the second half for Shildon. Doninger scored two more, and Martin Brittain added the eighth in the last minute.

Spennymoor maintained their quest for four trophies when they won 1-0 at Sunderland RCA in the quarter final of the Brooks Mileson Northern League Cup.

Craig Ruddy put them in the next round after 20 minutes from an Anthony Peacock pass.

Dunston won their quarter final 2-0 at West Allotment. Dunston took the lead after just 6 minutes when Andy Bulford headed in from a corner, and they went 2-0 up at the start of the second half through Micky Robson from another corner. Dunston will now play Moors in the semi final.

In the second division, Seaham Red Star won 3-0 at Morpeth.
