Wearside League club Seaton Carew sprang the shock of the night in the Durham Challenge Cup when they won 2-1 at ENL Second Division leaders Ryhope CW last night.
Seaton took the lead with a long range shot by Lee Jones, then Ryhope’s Jonny Butler missed from the penalty spot. Stuart Dixon successfully made it 2-0 to Seaton from the spot after Ryhope keeper Lenny French was red carded, and Nathan Johnson pulled a goal back near the end.
Birtley gave West Auckland a scare at Darlington Road, eventually going out on a tight penalty shootout.
West took the lead on 54 minutes when Elliott Gardner scored fro ma rebound, then John Campbell scored with a penalty after a foul on Dan Hindmarsh. Daniel Smith pulled a goal back with a 20 yarder, then Kallum Telfer equalised on 88 minutes. Stuart Banks crossed for Gardner to volley West into a 3-2 lead, but in the last minute Birtley levelled with a Matthew Hornsby penalty. West won the penalty shootout by 5-4.

Billingham Town striker Harrison Davies scored a hat trick, but he still finished up on the losing side against Sunderland RCA by 5-4. Town came back from 4-1 down after 73 minutes to draw level at 4-4, but RCA’s new signing Jordan Marshall got the winner in extra time.


Hebburn defender Chris Jewels scored a late winner for his side to give them a 3-2 win at Chester-le-Street.
Tony Stephenson gave Hebburn an early lead from a Paul Wardle pass, but that was cancelled out by Lewis Lynch from the edge of the area. Dan Kirkup scored at the second attempt to put Hebburn into the lead, but Michael Pattison equalised.  Just as extra time looked likely, Chris Jewels headed the winner.

Lewis Teesdale scored two first half goals to give Dunston a 2-0 victory in their local derby at Whickham.

Consett beat Sunderland West End 2-1, scoring twice in the firs t25 minutes through David Scorer and Jack Stanger, before Warren Cassop pulled a goal back early in the second half.
