Dunston damaged Bedlington’s ENL title hopes with a 2-1 win at the UTS Stadium last night.

They took the lead when Micky Dixon opened up the Bedlington defence for Dale Burrell to round the keeper and turn the ball home, and with seven minutes left Ben Cattanach got the second from a Terry Galbraith free kick. Bedlington pulled a late goal back through Stephen Baptist from a corner. Bedlington are 20 points behind leaders Darlington with two games in hand. Dunston manager Billy Irwin said: "It was a great team performance, and a well deserved three points."

In the relegation battle, Billingham Town and Durham City drew 2-2 at Bedford Terrace. Durham took an early lead through Craig Ellison’s 25 yard free kick, but Micky Dunwell levelled from a Harrison Davies cross. Glen Butterworth put Town in front from the penalty spot on 53 minutes after Nicky Martin was fouled, but Conor Winter equalised for Durham just two minutes later to give new boss Adam Furness his first point since taking over. Furness said: "I'm pleased to get a point after two straight defeats, but I felt we did enough to win the game. I think we hit the woodwork three or four times and created numerous chances to kill the game, but didn't take them. Needed debutant keeper Gareth Young to make a couple of excellent saves."

Bottom club Newton Aycliffe picked up a useful point in a 2-2 draw at Sunderland RCA.

Newton Aycliffe got off to a perfect start at Sunderland RCA, scoring after 3 minutes through Kris Hughes, but Aristote Guerin-Lokonga leveled on the half hour with a powerful shot. Gavin Barton, who was with Aycliffe at the start of the season, put RCA 2-1 up with a header deep into first half stoppage time. Aycliffe kept battling away, and Sean Tarling fired the equalizer right at the end of the second half.

Sunderland RCA manager Neil Hixon said: "Not a good performance. At 2-1 in normal time, we should have had enough experience to have seen the game out, but a point gained." Newton Aycliffe manager Alan Oliver said: "It was a tremendous display, I don't know how we didn't win it. Their keeper pulled off several good saves. It's a good sign that we're battling to the end of games."

Hebburn ended fourth placed Whitley Bay’s 8 game unbeaten run with a 4-1 win. Hebburn took the lead when Paul Wardle’s back header from a long throw looped into the net, and on 36 minutes Paul Gardiner fired the second from the edge of the box. James Luccock ran at the Whitley defence and fired the third before half time. Tony Stephenson got the fourth following a good move, before Paul Chow pulled one back after Paul Robinson’s shot was blocked. Hebburn manager Paul Bennett said: "A superb result. All the players put their bodies on the line and also gave their maximum. We kept to the game plan, stayed disciplined, played some good football and took the game to them. The lads fully deserve the result."

Whitley Bay manager Ian Chandler said: "It was a very bad display. We missed a couple of early chances and then defended very poorly. We've written it off as a bad day, but we need a reaction on Saturday."

Ashington beat Newcastle Benfield 3-0. Marc Walton scored the first two goals, the second of them a penalty after Benfield’s David Coulson was sent off, and then James Taylor got the third. Ashington assistant manager Anthony Woodhouse said: "Benfield started the better of the two teams, but then we scored and never looked back."

Celtic Nation beat Guisborough 3-2 in Carlisle after being 2-1 down at one point. Dean Renyard (2) and Steve Skinner scored for CN, with Liam McPhillips and Austin Johnston replying. CN manager Steve Skinner said: "The lads played really well, and worked very hard off the ball. We just need to keep consistency going. We deserved to win over 90 minutes and our only problem is we are creating five or six chances and not putting them away."

Second Division leaders Ryhope CW ran riot at Birtley, winning 6-1. Ryhope striker Chris Winn found the back of the net on four occasions – the second time he has done so this season – while fellow striker Jonny Butler got the other two. Winn has now scored 24 league goals this season. Birtley manager Scott Oliver said: "We were awful in the first half, but better in the second. To be fair, Ryhope are a good team going forward." Ryhope manager Martin Swales said: "We worked hard in the first half, and went in 4-0 up at half time. Birtley went for it in the second half, but we scored another two. I was gutted that we didn't keep a clean sheet!"

In the FA Carlsberg Vase, second division Jarrow Roofing beat first division Norton 1-0, with a goal by Anthony Myers. Norton manager Andy Campbell said: "We were second best for the entire game, and didn't deserve anything from it. Good luck to them in the next round, but as manager I am very disappointed to be knocked out as we have enough quality in the squad. We're just not showing enough at the minute." Roofing now go to Whitley Bay in the next round. Roofing manager Richie McLoughlin said: "It was a great win, we played well, and we go to a top team in the next round."
