BEN Stokes hopes to take his brilliant form into the one-day arena when Durham face CB 40 League matches at home to Hampshire tomorrow and against Scotland in Edinburgh on Monday.

After hitting 120 to help secure the draw against Somerset yesterday, Stokes said: "I've had a couple of one-day 50s this season, but I need to start kicking on from there.

"After my century at the Rose Bowl in the first championship match it was disappointing to keep getting out in the 20s, so it's very pleasing to have gone on this time.

"It was difficult to know how to approach it when we started the final day, but once I got to 50 I just let my natural game take over.

"I was disappointed to get out but the team did brilliantly and it was great to get the draw from the position we were in."

Stokes shared a stand of 170 with Dale Benkenstein after putting on 140 with him in the second innings at the Rose Bowl last month.

"It's great to be out there with such an experienced player," he said. "It gives me a lot of confidence and we have done well together."

Durham's 489 for six was their highest total in the fourth innings of a match, eclipsing the 453 for nine they made to beat the same opponents at Taunton in 2004, when Gareth Breese made 165 not out. Breese now has to be content with a one-day place and will definitely be needed tomorrow, with Ian Blackwell struggling following a back spasm.

Durham will consider a recall for Steve Harmison in one of the CB 40 games to get some overs under his belt before the championship game at Worcester, starting on Wednesday.

Durham will be without Graham Onions for that match as he plays for England Lions against Sri Lanka. With England selector James Whitaker watching yesterday, Stokes is also moving rapidly into England contention.
