A WONDERFUL partnership of 129 from Andrew Gale and Michael Vaughan steered Yorkshire to an impressive eight wicket victory over Nottinghamshire and move them closer to the Twenty20 Cup quarter-finals.

For the second time in a week, after his 79 not out against Derbyshire, Gale was the star with a blistering 91 as the Tykes’ racked up their third straight win.

Not to be out done Vaughan was also impressive and looked back to his best with 41 not out as the Tykes’ made light work of what looked like a competitive total of 155.

The two came to the crease after Rana Naved had been promoted up the order to provide some quick runs and when he struck a six in just the second over the tone had been set.

He was soon caught by Samit Patel to give Andre Adams a wicket, whilst trying to repeat the feat, but Gale and Vaughan made sure the early initiative would be carried on and in some style.

There is an 18 day break before the Twenty20 fixtures start again with Yorkshire playing next at Nottinghamshire.
