YORKSHIRE will assess the fitness of both Michael Vaughan and Andrew Gale before making a decision on their team ahead of today’s Friends Provident Trophy meeting with Gloucestershire.
Both failed to play on day four of the Tykes’ County Championship draw against Warwickshire on Saturday, Vaughan with a hamstring strain and Gale with a gastric stomach virus.
“It’s too early to know how serious Vaughan’s injury is but there must be a doubt about him,”
confirmed director of professional cricket Martyn Moxon “This is a squad game though and with the games coming think and fast people are bound to pick up knocks.”
Simon Guy and Adam Lyth have been added to the squad, as they look to get their challenge for a quarter-final spot back on track.
Following a perfect opening to the competition when they beat Durham and Sussex, they lost twice in just three days.
It means they go into the game joint second with Sussex in Group C – four points behind today’s opponents, who lead the table after winning their fourth game on the trot against Durham yesterday.
Saturday’s frustrating draw at Warwickshire made it four games in all competitions without victory.
Yorkshire went into the final day hoping to claim 12 wickets for an unlikely win, but hopes were dashed early on when the hosts saved the follow on by passing the 451 mark.
That made Yorkshire’s sole objective on a tedious last day of play to achieve maximum bowling points and Ajmal Shahzad made sure it happened when he finally ousted Jeetan Patel for 120.
The hosts were all out for 482. Adil Rashid (58) and Anthony McGrath (53) then helped Yorkshire to 162 for three as they set Warwickshire 281 to win in a desperate search to try and force a result.
It was never going to be enough with only 36 overs left though and Warwickshire reached 60 for one when the captains shook hands at five o’clock.
