Adil Rashid marked Yorkshire's first visit to Kidderminster in 40 years by registering his maiden first class century on the third day of the rain-ravaged Championship match against Worcestershire.

But his performance was later upstaged by Worcestershire paceman, Kabir Ali, who reduced Yorkshire to ten for four in their second innings to leave them in danger of losing to the bottom-of-the-table county.

Yorkshire closed on 32 for four which left them 179 runs in front.

Rashid had earlier hit a faultless 108 to push the first innings score to 319 and in a worthy attempt to gain a positive result from the match Worcestershire went on to declare on 172 for five when they trailed by 147.

Adil has already earned the reputation of being one of the best young leg-spinners in the world and yesterday he showed once again that he is also an accomplished batsman.

His century came when he slashed Kabir Ali over backward point for four to the delight of his team-mates who emerged from the pavilion to give him a standing ovation.

Careless batting on the previous day meant that Gerard Brophy and Rashid had a lot of repair work to do when Yorkshire began the day on 152 for five.

They advanced their stand to 111 in 27 overs before Brophy struck Roger Sillence firmly to mid-wicket where he was well caught by Ben Smith.

Malik had Tim Bresnan caught behind and in an energetic spell of bowling Doug Bollinger yorked Jason Gillespie and then dismissed Darren Gough to leave Yorkshire on 302 for nine with Adil 93 and in danger of being stranded in the 90s for the second time this season.

But Hoggard held out at the other end and was quick to shake hands with Rashid when his 16th boundary took him to his century off 146 balls.

His dismissal came when he steered Bollinger into wicketkeeper, Steven Davies' gloves. Former England batsman Graeme Hick hit a half-century off 52 balls before the home side's declaration before Yorkshire collapsed to end the day on 32 for four.
