Anthony McGrath hit a commanding 55 when play finally got under way on the day two of Yorkshire's Championship match against Worcestershire at Kidderminster.
But the rest of the top order were less successful as the Tykes closed on 152 for five from the day's 35 overs.
On the way to completing his half-century, McGrath also joined the ranks of those to have scored 10,000 first-class runs for the county.
After the frustrations of the first-day blank, both sides had to sit around until 3pm before the ground was dry.
Yorkshire, put in to bat, did not get off to the start they had expected against their bottom-of-the-table opponents as Craig White lost his middle stump to the third ball of the innings.
It was the 11th consecutive Championship innings in which White has failed to register a half-century and opening partner Joe Sayers also continued his wretched run of form.
The left-hander had made only four when he edged Doug Bollinger for Ben Smith to hold on to a smart two-handed catch low at second slip.
Three Championship centuries in the first part of the season earned Sayers his county cap but since then he has mustered only 52 runs in his last ten innings.
Although Yorkshire wanted to get on with it, Younus Khan was too cavalier in his final Championship match. He got away with two edges through the slips off wild drives before he steered a ball into the hands of Phil Jaques at first slip and Yorkshire were 51 for three.
Fortunately for Yorkshire, McGrath was batting with all of his usual fluency and when he off-drove Bollinger for three it took him to 25 and moved him past the 10,000 landmark.
The rapid scoring continued as Jacques Rudolph carved Bollinger high over the slips but McGrath enjoyed an escape on 45 as Nadeem Malik had him edging to second slip, where the usually reliable Graeme Hick spilled the catch.
McGrath's first scoring shot after tea, a powerful extra-cover drive off Malik, brought him his half-century off 59 balls with ten boundaries, took the Yorkshire total into three figures and made his stand with Rudolph worth 50.
At 112 for three, with 27 overs remaining, rain and bad light meant 16 overs were lost. On the resumption Yorkshire hit double trouble, McGrath cutting Nadeem Malik to Jaques at first slip and Rudolph departing for 29 when he pushed forward at Kabir Ali and got an inside edge into his middle stump.
Adil Rashid joined Gerard Brophy and the pair saw Yorkshire through to the close in fading light.
