WARWICKSHIRE will provide us with a completely different challenge this weekend in the Championship than they did down at Edgbaston earlier in the season, but we are still confident of coming out on top.
Beating the champions by an innings was a great effort, but they’re a very good side who have just had two wins in a row.
They’re a strong side with a bit of momentum behind them. We are going to have to be at our best to win because it is going to be tough. If we continue playing like we have been though, there is no reason why we can’t get the win.
They had a few injuries at the start of the year, including Keith Barker, who is a very important player for them.
And I think there is something to be said for teams wanting to beat the champions. That kind of pressure might have been a bit different than they were used to.
But it is no surprise to see them back on form again and in with a chance of winning the title.
We haven’t got a target of how many wins we’ll need to win the title because we go into each match trying to win. Mind you, I think we’d take six!
I’m sure Phil Jaques will be a loss to us with his injury because he’s a good player who scored a lot of runs against Derbyshire in our last match.
But we have still got players who can come in and take responsibility and get a few good scores.
There was a bit of pressure on us as a batting unit at the start of the season, with Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow set to be missing. Other guys needed to step up and so far all the batters have done that.
We have had eight different players scoring hundreds, which is fantastic.
I don’t think we are thinking about proving people wrong now. Maybe we did a little bit at the start of the season, proving that we were good enough to be in Division One. Now we’ve got a few wins, we’ve shown what we’re capable of.
This could be the weekend when England retain the Ashes. There’s no reason why they can’t go three up and I’m sure they will desperate to make it 5-0 too.
It was great to see Rooty get his first Ashes hundred at Lord’s. I spoke to him and congratulated the other lads on a fantastic performance, and they are definitely in buoyant mood.
