MICK WADSWORTH insists there is no panic within the Hartlepool United camp.

While some sections of supporters were up in arms last weekend when Pools lost a third successive game, in falling to Wycombe at Victoria Park, inside the confines of the dressing room there is a determination to put things right.

Pools go to Chesterfield this afternoon and losses to Sheffield Wednesday and Notts County before last weekend means they are out to halt the run today.

The Spireites have lost their last four and Wadsworth said of his own side: "It's affected our mental state because we were proud as punch and pleased that things were going well - but it hasn't dented confidence or belief.

"We've still got that ambition to be where we want to be at the end of the season and that's what counts.

"But these things are sent to challenge and test us and these players and staff will work hard to get the result we want at Chesterfield.

"If we'd said this is where we'd be at the start of the season at this stage then we would have been delighted.

"But a couple of bad performances on the bounce makes people jump up and down in fear and panic and dread, but we can't be like that.

"We've got to stick to our principles and the things which made us a decent team for that first part of the season.

"It's the bounce-back situation and I'm sure we will.''

He added: "We've got to start a new run in that winning groove. I wouldn't call it a rot, I don't like that word - that smacks of something nasty and horrible.

"But we need to win - if that's ugly or pretty it doesn't matter.

"We need to be tighter at the back, improve on set-plays and take those chances when they come along.

"That hasn't happened in recent matches.
