SUNDERLAND have completed the signing of midfielder Sebastian Larsson and goalkeeper Kieren Westwood on free transfers.

Larsson arrives at the Stadium of Light on a three-year deal after leaving Birmingham City at the end of a four-year contract, joining up once again with manager Steve Bruce.

Bruce took Larsson to St Andrew's on a season-long loan deal from Arsenal in July 2006, before exercising the option to make the transfer permanent in January 2007, rewarding the player's contribution to what would be a successful promotion push with a deal until the end of the 2010/11 season.

Bruce said: "Seb was a fantastic young player for me at Birmingham and he has matured into a very good midfielder.

"He has been courted by a number of top clubs over the summer - both in England and across Europe - so we are naturally delighted that he has chosen to come to Sunderland."

Westwood has joined up with the Black Cats from Npower Championship side Coventry City, signing a three-year deal on Wearside after his contract expired at the Ricoh Arena.

Bruce said: "Keiren has proven to be an exceptional goalkeeper both in the Championship and at international level and he has certainly been one of the best in this country outside of the Premier League in recent seasons.

"We're obviously delighted that Keiren sees his future here at Sunderland and we're looking forward to him joining what is a talented group of goalkeepers at the club."

Westwood began his career at Manchester City and after a brief loan spell at Oldham Athletic, he joined Carlisle United - making more than 130 league appearances during four years at Brunton Park.

Since moving to Coventry City from the Cumbrians in 2008, the Manchester-born shot-stopper has picked up seven full international caps for the Republic of Ireland, qualifying for selection via his Irish grandmother.
