PUNCTURES once again put paid to Guy Wilks' hopes of Intercontinental Rally Challenge success this weekend.
Wilks, from Darlington, had been looking good for podium success in Ypres, Belgium, and began day two in second place overall.
However, after setting the fastest time on the opening stage of the day, the Peugeot UK driver suffered a double puncture on Stage Ten, which dealt his chances a severe blow.
He dropped down to 11th overall, but despite suffering a slow puncture which caused his car to spin on stage 15 and yet another deflation a stage later, Wilks finished the event in fifth by recording the fastest time on the final stage.
"We didn't get the result that mattered and that's a real shame," said Wilks. "The car was great, although we didn't get the luck we needed."
Freddy Loix maintained his lead to win the event for a seventh time.
