GUY Wilks was in second place after four stages of the GEKO Ypres Rally.
The Darlington driver is in Belgium competing in the fifth round of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge.
Skodas Freddy Loix leads the way after claiming his fourth stage win to increase his overall advantage to 23.3s.
But Peugeot UK driver Wilks and co-driver Phil Pugh are in pursuit, albeit 9.2 seconds adrift.
"I had a good split in one place but we lost a lot of time somewhere and I'm a bit bewildered," said Wilks.
