DURHAM will review their bowling plans as well as their personnel ahead of the Friends Life t20 home games against Lancashire this evening and Leicestershire on Sunday afternoon.
Paul Collingwood misses both games because of his groin injury, then David Miller will be absent from the next two T20 matches, at Old Trafford next Friday and at home to Worcestershire on Sunday week.
Miller has to return to South Africa and Durham will bring him back for the final four games only if they still have a chance of qualifying for the quarter-finals.
Graham Onions is rested for tonight and Sunday, althrough both he Collingwood could be in contention for next week's County Championship trip to Liverpool to face Lancashire.
After two wins, three defeats and three washouts they are in the bottom three in the northern group and need two wins this weekend.
They slipped from second in the group to third from the bottom in the space of two nights when they were thrashed at Trent Bridge and suffered their third no result at Grace Road.
But at the halfway stage of the programme they are only two points behind second-placed Leicestershire and the top four in the group will go through.
Coach Geoff Cook admitted that if Durham are to progress they will need to find a way to bowl more effectively after Nottinghamshire amassed 213 for four under the Trent Bridge floodlights then Leicestershire's Josh Cobb hit a 21-ball half-century.
While other counties prefer to take the pace off the ball by using spinners and medium pacers, Durham have relied heavily on quicker bowlers.
Mitch Claydon has an economy rate of 9.44 runs an over, Chris Rushworth's is 9.23 and Liam Plunkett's 8.47. Collingwood has been the most economical at 6.45, but has bowled only 11 overs and was not called upon at Trent Bridge.
Cook said: "There will be a lot of twists and turns yet, but we will be looking for a minimum of four wins from eight games.
"We have batted pretty well, but we have met teams who have come out in explosive fashion on good wickets and it has been a bit of a shock to the bowlers in the first six overs. We will have to look at that."
Ben Harmison is added to the squad for both games.
