Middlesbrough and Hartlepool United have been given Carling Cup dates with League One opposition in the first round.
Boro have been drawn away at Walsall when the cup begins in the week commencing August 8.
While Pools have been given a home date with Sheffield United, relegated from the Championship last season, for the second year in a row.
The Blades travelled to Victoria Park at the same stage last season and lost 2-0.
Former Boro boss Steve McClaren's first cup tie back in English football will see his Nottingham Forest side face local rivals Notts County at the City Ground.
The former England boss, who won the Carling Cup with the Teessiders in 2004, has succeeded Billy Davies at the midlands club and the Carling Cup first-round clash could be his first home game in charge.
