RICHARD Fahey looks set for a good day at Wolverhampton, with both Sloop Johnb and Ballodair holding excellent chances.
The North Yorkshire trainer saddled his first Group One winner in 2010 and he has barely broken stride over the winter, continuing to send out a number of his all-weather stalwarts to victory.
Sloop Johnb very much fits into that category and he can make it a quickfire double as he lines up in the Today’s Jockey Specials At bluesq.com Claiming Stakes.
Cheekpieces seem to have fired the five-year-old’s enthusiasm once again and he dealt with a slow track when triumphing at Dunstall Park 11 days ago.
Sloop Johnb possibly had a shade more in hand than his official two-anda- quarter-length verdict over Elhamri, so a 2lb rise does not look too harsh for a horse that has not been out of the places in his last seven starts.
Ballodair is currently racing off one of his lowest ever marks and merits the utmost respect in the Enhanced SP’s At bluesq.com Handicap.
The four-year-old was a juvenile winner at Thirsk but that victory in 2009 saw him pitched in at a mark of 81, a rating off which he really struggled to compete.
He has slowly been dropping through the weights since then though and lining up on 67 last time, he came very near to snatching second at Kempton last month.
That effort hinted at something of a revival and although he has gone up 1lb, Ballodair still looks to be on a favourable perch.
Quilver Tatou made a promising start to the campaign at Lingfield earlier in the month and he can build on that second-placed effort at Folkestone.
Highly tried as a four-year-old, Charlie Mann’s charge is still seeking his first success three years later following what has been a pretty lightly-raced career so far. He returned from a lengthy layoff when having just his second chase outing at Lingfield, just getting a bit tapped for toe.
