ONLY four league games went ahead on Saturday.
Redcar Athletic, who have applied for promotion to the STL Northern League, entertained fifth-top Darlington Cleveland Bridge at Green Lane and held their opponents during a poor first-half.
Redcar broke the deadlock four minutes into the second period when Liam Wood delivered a curling ball over the defence and Jamie Lee found the net from six yards giving goalkeeper Michael Thomas no chance.
The outcome remained in the balance until Billy Millington scored a second goal five minutes from time.
Sub Steve Barker created the opening and Millington’s 20- yard strike flew into the net.
Hartlepool enjoyed a comfortable 4-2 win over Boldon CA with four goals in a frenetic opening 12 minutes.
Boldon keeper Lee Jackson parried a first-minute shot but only into the path of Carl Wood and he made no mistake.
On five minutes, 17-year old debutant Craig Hutchinson’s effort was parried by Jackson and Stephen Chapman converted the rebound.
Four minutes later Boldon were back in the game with a tap-in by Chris Robinson.
Pools soon re-established a two-goal cushion with a crosscome- shot by Wood which eluded the goalkeeper.
Just before the interval Chapman saw off challengers and planted the ball into the roof of the net for Hartlepool’s fourth goal.
Michael Meek claimed a second consolation for Boldon in stoppage time.
Stockton Town leapfrogged Houghton Town in the bottom half of the table with a 2-0 victory over their rivals. Both goals were credited to David Johnson.
One of the three first round Wearside League Cup ties went ahead and, following extra-time, Willington went through 2-1 at Silksworth.
Shaun Golightly gave the Wearsiders a first-half lead.
Early in the second period a deep cross from Danny Lee was converted at the back post by Michael Weston.
With five minutes of extra time remaining, Willington clinched the tie when home keeper John McLean punched clear and James Seymour fired into the net.
Kirkbymoorside finally managed to stage their North Riding Senior Cup tie with Nunthorpe Athletic, although the venue had to be switched to Guisborough.
After establishing a 2-0 lead, Kirkbymoorside conceded two goals in stoppage time.
Rob McDermott gave the “home” side a 43rd-minute lead which was doubled by Johnny Brown midway through the second period.
The tie went to penalties and Kirkbymoorside won 4-3.
