FAST-BOWLER Oliver Hannon-Dalby says Yorkshire have signed “one of the best players in the country” after the Tykes confirmed the capture of Ryan Sidebottom.

The 21 year-old, who was one of Yorkshire’s best performers in the County Championship last season, admits he cannot wait to play alongside the former England paceman.

“I’ve watched him bowl for England over the last few years, and he’s been outstanding,”

added Hannon- Dalby.

“He was probably the world’s best bowler a few years back and he is still one of the best bowlers in the country by miles.”

Hannon-Dalby, who took 34 Championship wickets last season, will be hoping to be a major part of the Tykes attack alongside Sidebottom when the 2011 campaign gets underway.

This year has certainly been one to remember for the towering youngster, who had only played one first-class match for Yorkshire before he took part in every one of the side’s County Championship games during the 2010 campaign.

Hannon-Dalby, who stands at 6ft 8in, insists having Sidebottom around will help him reach his full potential over the coming years.

“He’s played in every form of cricket for England, so the experience he’ll bring to the team – especially in the seam bowling department – is going to be massive,” he said.

“To play with and against Test players is a fabulous experience.

I’ve played with Jacques (Rudolph) all of this year, and it’s been fantastic to pick his brains.”

“I can’t wait to do that with Ryan.”

Sidebottom’s experience and knowledge is one of the major reasons that Yorkshire were so keen on re-signing him – along with his wickettaking record in every form of the game.

Hannon-Dalby was not in the Yorkshire set-up when Sidebottom left for Nottinghamshire six years ago, but the right-armed quick believes the Tykes latest acquisition has still had a big impact on his career so far.

He said: “I wasn’t really involved with Yorkshire when he was around, so we just missed each other.

“I remember going to watch him when I was at school once though, when him and Goughy were bowling together.”

“I remember being gobsmacked and inspired.”

Hannon-Dalby’s first chance to get to play alongside his hero will come in November – when Yorkshire begin their pre-season training.
