HARROGATE'S Jenny Duncalf put up a brave fight in her Commonwealth Games gold medal squash showdown against Malaysia's long-standing world number one Nicol David but had to settle for silver after a 11-3 11-5 11-7 defeat.
Victory was always a long shot for Duncalf who had won just two of the pair's previous 24 meetings and she was never allowed to settle by David, who finally added Commonwealth gold to her medal collection.
Alison Waters failed to become the second English woman on the podium behind Duncalf after she was forced to default from her bronze medal play-off against Australia's Kasey Brown due to injury.
Peter Barker secured a men's bronze for England by beating Malaysian Mokh Iskandar 11-5 11-4 11-2.
